Peripheral Spaces explores the temporal and semiotic transformations of nature in urban spaces and digital interfaces. This web experience acts as abstracted paratexts to the physical works on the site of the National Institute of Education (NIE) Gallery, relating to the physical works through one or more of the following directions:
Acting as time extensions to the artwork.
Providing context and indication of origin.
Creating visual extensions to the artwork
Photographs of the site where the installations are located become entry points that display media frames. Frames are often used as a convention in narrative media such as film or graphic novel to demarcate shifts in narration, for instance shifting scale, point of view or time frames. The formal features of the graphic interface posits a spatialisation of the screen based web media, as well as encouraging a heightened awareness of our ability in correlating cognitive frames across different modalities.
